Oakley is a brand that was created in 1975 by Jim JANNARD, but where does the name "Oakley" come from? It is actually the name of his dog who used to lie down at the foot of an oak tree, which literally means "Oak-Ley" in English. However, the Oakley brand had nothing to do with the world of optics and eyewear, and for good reason. Jim Jannard began by making handlebar grips for motorbikes using a new material called "unobtainium". It wasn't until 1984 that the brand decided to move into eyewear, when its creator discovered that the innovative material he was using for motorbike handlebars could also be used to create eyewear. From that point on, the brand became synonymous with innovation, technology and performance.
