In 1862, Kaspar Tanner, after three years of training as a rope maker and a period of apprenticeship mainly in Germany, set up his own rope factory in Dintikon, Switzerland. This date marks the birth of Mammut. The company has a long tradition of rope making and decades of experience in clothing, sleeping bags, shoes and accessories. Mammut also listens carefully to the comments and suggestions of the many sportsmen and women who regularly use the company's equipment, test it and participate in its design.
